A Colombian court recently made history by hosting its first legal trial in the Metaverse, an online virtual space. The Magdalena Administrative Court conducted a two-hour court case on February 15 involving participants in a traffic dispute. The case was brought by a regional transport union against the police, and the verdict may also be given in the Metaverse. Participants appeared as avatars in a virtual courtroom, with the court magistrate dressed in black legal robes. Colombia is one of the first countries in the world to test legal proceedings in the Metaverse. Magistrate Maria Quinones Triana said that the trial felt more “real than a video call,” and this marks a significant milestone in the application of virtual reality technology in the legal industry. The use of the Metaverse in legal proceedings could make the justice system more accessible and cost-effective, especially for cases that require the attendance of participants from different locations.

This development comes after a recent survey by CoinWire, which found that 69% of respondents believe that the Metaverse will eventually modify social lifestyles due to new approaches taken for entertainment and activities. The Metaverse is a virtual world that enables people to interact with each other and virtual objects in real-time. It has the potential to transform how people live, work, and interact with each other.

Experts have predicted that the Metaverse will deeply impact how people socialize in the future. Cathy Hackl, author of Into the Metaverse: The Essential Guide to the Business Opportunities of the Web3 era, said that the “physical world side” of the Metaverse will “come in the next 10 years.” This means that the way people interact with each other will change, and it is essential to start preparing for this change.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) held in January this year was seen boasting metaverse experiences, with the conference allowing delegates to experience the forum in its own 3D immersive digital sessions called the “Global Collaboration Village.” This shows that the Metaverse has the potential to transform how people conduct business and interact with each other in a virtual environment.

In conclusion, the use of the Metaverse in legal proceedings is a significant milestone that could transform how the justice system works. The potential benefits include accessibility and cost-effectiveness, which could make justice more accessible to people from different locations. The Metaverse has the potential to revolutionize how people live, work, and interact with each other. As more organizations and individuals start exploring this technology, it is important to start preparing for the changes it will bring in the future.
